Khalid Zadran, the Taliban police spokesperson in Kabul, announced that the suspected individual involved in a vehicle attack on a group of girls in Kabul has been arrested. According to him, the person, along with the vehicle, has been detained and is currently under interrogation. Zadran added that the investigation and follow-up process of the case is still ongoing.
The incident took place in the jurisdiction of Police District 6 in Kabul, resulting in at least three girls being injured. Taliban police also released an image of the detained suspect in which the individual’s face has been blurred to protect their identity.
According to published information, the incident occurred on Sunday, 17 Jowza. Footage released of the incident shows several women walking along a road when a white Toyota Land Cruiser with dark-tinted windows and no license plates moves at high speed toward them and collides with them.
The video further shows that after striking the women, the vehicle also runs over a cyclist. The circulation of these images on social media has drawn widespread attention and sparked numerous reactions.
Sources say the injured girls were returning after attending a seminar at the time of the incident. According to these sources, the vehicle deliberately moved toward them, causing injuries to several individuals.
The Taliban police announced the arrest of the suspect approximately eight days after the incident, following the widespread circulation of the video. Security officials had previously stated that the perpetrator had been identified and that efforts to arrest him were underway.
Despite announcing the arrest, the Taliban police have not yet released information regarding the identity of the detained individual, the possible motive behind the act, or further details related to the case.
The release of the footage has triggered widespread reactions from social media users and civil activists, who have called for clarification of the incident’s details and legal action against those responsible.
