U.S. President Donald Trump has said that the United States has been engaged in a war with Iran for six months and, according to him, Iran’s military capabilities have been “completely destroyed” and the country has been “largely devastated.”
Trump said on Wednesday that 18 U.S. service members had been killed during this period, while claiming that the number of Iranian fatalities had reached 4,500. These figures have not yet been independently verified.
He added, “You will see events taking place very soon,” and emphasized that the United States would achieve victory in the war with Iran “very soon.”
Trump’s remarks come as efforts continue to end the conflict between the United States and Iran through negotiations. According to Reuters, Iran has received the latest U.S. proposal, but differences remain between the two sides over a ceasefire and the situation in the Persian Gulf.
Meanwhile, the ongoing tensions between the United States and Iran have also affected the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, disrupting the global transportation of oil.
