U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance stated that deploying approximately 150,000 U.S. ground troops to Iran is not under consideration in Washington. He said such an operation would mean the U.S. military undertaking a task that, in his view, should be carried out by the Iranian people themselves. Vance emphasized that the U.S. administration is not pursuing such an approach.
He made the remarks during an interview on Joe Rogan’s podcast. His comments come amid renewed speculation in recent days about the possibility of a U.S. military deployment to Iran or actions such as the seizure of Kharg Island by the United States.
Vance also warned against repeating the “Libya scenario” in Iran. He noted that following the overthrow of Muammar Gaddafi, Libya became a failed state, experiencing widespread violence, the expansion of terrorist groups, and a large-scale migration crisis.
The vice president added that while some individuals advocate for a similar outcome in Iran, he believes such a scenario would offer no benefit to the United States. He argued that destabilizing Iran could force millions of people to migrate to Europe and the United States while simultaneously creating opportunities for terrorist networks to expand across different regions of the world.
Vance concluded by stressing that the United States has already experienced the consequences of such policies in the past. He therefore questioned how repeating the same approach could possibly serve America’s national interests.
