The Afghanistan chamber of commerce and investment says Afghan and Uzbek traders have signed trade agreements worth 17.2 billion Afghanis in Kabul.
According to the chamber, the agreements were signed during a meeting between Afghan traders and business representatives from Uzbekistan’s Qashqadaryo Province. The deals cover wheat, flour, fruits, cotton, and other commodities.
The meeting emphasized expanding trade between the two countries and strengthening economic cooperation.
Arin Zargai Azimi, a representative of the Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment, said Afghanistan is well positioned for trade with Uzbekistan and that closer cooperation could help establish an effective route for expanding bilateral commerce.
Meanwhile, Shahrah Muradov, deputy governor of Qashqadaryo Province, said the province’s natural resources offer significant opportunities for expanding trade with Afghanistan.
He added that Uzbekistan is particularly interested in cooperation with Afghanistan in the areas of wheat, flour, fruits, and other products.
At the same time, Mullah Ahmadullah Zahid, deputy minister at the Taliban-run Ministry of Industry and Commerce, called for the expansion of normal trade relations between Afghanistan and Uzbekistan and for these ties to be elevated to the level of important and strategic relations.
The agreements come as Afghan traders and the Taliban have stepped up efforts to expand trade ties with Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Azerbaijan, and other Central Asian countries following the disruption of trade between Afghanistan and Pakistan.
