The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has claimed that it has released Pakistani police officers whom it had previously abducted in the Hangu district of Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
In a video released by the group, the TTP said it freed the officers on the condition that they resign from their positions. According to the group, it also provided the released officers with cash and covered their travel expenses to enable them to return home.
Pakistan’s government and security agencies have not yet issued an official response to the claim, and the authenticity of the video has not been independently verified.
Meanwhile, recent weeks have seen a sharp increase in militant attacks and security incidents across the provinces of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
Islamabad has repeatedly accused the Afghan Taliban of providing sanctuary and support to the TTP and of allowing the group to operate against Pakistan. The Taliban authorities in Afghanistan have rejected the allegations, insisting that Pakistan’s security challenges are an internal matter for the country.
