At the annual Society of Publishers in Asia (SOPA) Awards held in Hong Kong, Waliq Kohsar, a news photographer for Agence France-Presse (AFP) in Afghanistan, has won the award in the “Excellence in Photography” category.
The organizers of the event announced on Friday, June 19, that the winning works were selected from hundreds of photographic submissions sent by journalists and photojournalists representing various international media organizations. According to the jury, the entries were evaluated through multiple rounds of judging by a panel of distinguished journalists and university professors from different countries.
Waliq Kohsar, with his documentary photo series on social life in Afghanistan, was shortlisted among the finalists in this category and ultimately succeeded in winning this prestigious award.
