Khan Officer Ahmadzai, an Afghan national, has been sentenced to 51 days in prison for illegally entering the United States through the Canadian border. Following the completion of his sentence, deportation proceedings will begin.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of New York said on Monday, 26 Asad, that Ahmadzai, 30, is a resident of Kabul. He was arrested by U.S. Border Patrol agents after illegally entering the country.
According to the statement, Ahmadzai entered the United States on June 3 after crossing the international border on foot near Champlain, New York. He had not undergone the required immigration and customs inspection procedures upon entry.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office said Border Patrol agents arrested Ahmadzai after he entered the country. The statement did not provide further details about the time of his arrest or where he was being held.
After pleading guilty to the charge of illegally entering the United States, Ahmadzai was sentenced to 51 days in prison. According to the prosecutors’ statement, deportation proceedings will begin once he completes his sentence.
The statement from the U.S. Attorney’s Office also said that Ahmadzai had previously attempted to enter the United States. No further information was provided about his earlier attempt to enter the country.
