Abdul Bari Muneeb Zadran, spokesperson for the Taliban’s police command in Paktia, says a doctor was killed by an unidentified individual near the provincial regional hospital. According to him, the perpetrator has not yet been identified, and police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Muneeb Zadran told Taliban-affiliated media that the incident occurred at around 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, 18 Asad, in the Gardez Township area of Gardez, the capital of Paktia province. He identified the deceased doctor as Abdul Hanan.
According to the Taliban police spokesperson, Abdul Hanan was completing his internship at Paktia Regional Hospital. He added that the doctor died after being shot with an air rifle, and that the motive behind the incident remains unknown.
The Taliban police have said that investigations are ongoing to identify the perpetrator and determine the motive behind the incident. No further details have so far been released regarding the identity of the individual or individuals involved or the circumstances of the shooting.
The incident comes amid reports in recent months of several civilians being killed by unidentified individuals in various parts of Afghanistan. In some of these cases, the identities of the perpetrators and the motives behind the incidents have yet to be officially disclosed.
