UK Maritime Trade Operations Reports Vessel Targeted by Unidentified Projectile in Strait of Hormuz.
The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) says a vessel has been targeted by an unidentified projectile in the Strait of Hormuz.
In a post on X on Tuesday, August 4, the organization said the incident occurred the previous night, approximately 20 nautical miles northeast of Khasab, Oman.
UKMTO stated that a commercial vessel reported through the emergency VHF Channel 16 that it had been struck by an unidentified projectile.
The maritime security agency, which monitors shipping incidents, had also reported an explosion aboard an oil tanker in the same area the previous day. It further said that two separate incidents involving two vessels had occurred near the coast of Oman on Saturday.
However, no country or group has so far claimed responsibility for the attacks on the four vessels involved in the recent incidents.
Previously, Iran had claimed responsibility for similar attacks and had typically described the affected vessels as “violators,” arguing that they had been traveling without coordination with the “Gulf Waterway Management Authority” and had used the southern route of the Strait of Hormuz.
