The Afghanistan national Institute of music has announced that it will release a new song titled “Adam and Eve” to coincide with the fifth anniversary of the Taliban’s return to power. The song will be made available to audiences through the institute’s official social media pages on Saturday, August 15, at 7 p.m. Kabul time.
In a statement issued on Friday, August 14, the Afghanistan National Institute of Music said the song was produced by the Afghanistan Youth Orchestra and vocalists affiliated with the institute. The piece features the voices of young Afghan girls and boys performing together.
The music and lyrics for “Adam and Eve” were composed by Homayoun Marwat, while the arrangement and conducting were handled by Tiago Moreira da Silva. The institute said the new work was inspired by the experiences and difficult circumstances faced by the people of Afghanistan.
According to the Afghanistan National Institute of Music, “Adam and Eve” explores themes including freedom, equality, human dignity, hope, and the right to education and artistic expression. The institute said the song reflects the pain and suffering of the Afghan people, as well as their desire for equal opportunities in life.
The statement also noted that since the Taliban returned to power, Afghan women and girls have been systematically and extensively deprived of education and excluded from many areas of social life. The institute also highlighted widespread restrictions on freedom of expression and cultural activities in Afghanistan.
The Afghanistan National Institute of Music added that music and artistic expression have likewise faced severe restrictions, resulting in the silencing of a significant part of Afghanistan’s cultural and musical life.
According to the statement, following the Taliban’s return to power, a number of students, teachers, and musicians affiliated with the Afghanistan National Institute of Music were forced to leave the country. After relocating to Portugal, the institute has continued its educational and artistic activities outside Afghanistan.
The institute said that over the past five years, the Afghanistan Youth Orchestra and other musicians affiliated with the organization have performed in Portugal and various countries around the world. The purpose of these performances, according to the institute, has been to showcase Afghan culture and convey the experiences and circumstances of the Afghan people through music.
The institute emphasized that being away from Afghanistan has not been able to silence the country’s musicians. It said that as long as Afghan young people continue to learn, play, and sing, “the voice of Afghanistan will remain alive.”
