The Afghanistan Green Trend, led by Amrullah Saleh, has claimed that forces affiliated with the movement attacked a Taliban checkpoint at the entrance to Chal district in Takhar province on Monday, 28 Asad (August 19).
In a video released by the movement, the Green Trend said its military wing, known as the Green Unit, inflicted heavy casualties on Taliban forces stationed at the checkpoint during the operation.
According to details published by the Green Trend alongside the video, members of the Green Unit monitored the area in Chal district from 7 a.m. until 10 p.m. before carrying out the attack on the Taliban checkpoint.
The Green Unit is the operational arm of the Afghanistan Green Trend, a movement led by Amrullah Saleh, Afghanistan’s former first vice president. The group says its operations are aimed at inflicting damage on Taliban forces.
The Green Trend further claimed that Taliban personnel stationed at the targeted checkpoint suffered “heavy casualties.” It did not provide an exact figure, saying only that the attackers returned to their base after the operation.
The official Afghanistan Green Trend account on X also confirmed the attack, describing it as one of its operations against the Taliban.
The Taliban have not yet commented on the claim. As of the publication of this report, there have been no independent reports from the Taliban or media outlets affiliated with the group providing further details about the incident.
In recent weeks, reports have emerged of increased activity by armed groups opposed to the Taliban in parts of northern and northeastern Afghanistan. However, the details and scale of these activities, as well as casualties resulting from the clashes, have in many cases not been independently verified.
