In an unexpected incident in Austria, an aircraft parts manufacturing company reportedly received packages containing human remains instead of technical equipment ordered from the United States.
The incident occurred on Monday, June 15, at the facilities of the company “FACC,” one of the major suppliers of aircraft components, located in St. Martin im Innkreis in the state of Upper Austria.
According to Austrian media reports, several refrigerated boxes containing human body parts and remains were delivered to the company. The situation came to light when an employee, upon opening the first package, discovered human remains instead of industrial components.
Reports indicate that a total of eight refrigerated containers had been sent to the company, and preliminary examinations revealed that all of them contained human remains, including eight human torsos.
The employee immediately informed company management after discovering the contents, and executives promptly alerted the police.
Preliminary investigations by security authorities, however, indicated that the incident was not of a criminal nature. Findings suggested that the human remains had been shipped for educational, medical, and research purposes, with their intended destination being a research facility in Germany.
Initial assessments point to an error in the air transport process, with the possibility that the shipment was misrouted at Munich Airport.
Officials later stated that the shipment originated in the United States and had been mistakenly exchanged during transit with an order of aircraft components intended for FACC.
It remains unclear where the original shipment of aircraft parts destined for the company was ultimately delivered, and investigations are ongoing.
Representatives of FACC stated that the incident caused significant psychological distress to the employee involved.
Ultimately, the human remains were forwarded to their intended destination. However, this rare logistical error in the aviation transport industry has attracted widespread attention from media outlets and social media users in Austria.
