A miner has been killed and another injured following an explosion during a mining operation in the Pachigram area of Barg-e-Matal district in Nuristan province.
The incident occurred on Saturday, 17 Asad, while mining activities were underway. Local sources said the explosion occurred as the miners were working, but no further details have been released regarding the cause or circumstances of the blast.
The deceased was identified as Ghulam Mohammad, a resident of Nari district in Kunar province. No further information is currently available about the condition of the injured miner or the extent of his injuries.
The incident comes after another miner was killed in Nesi district of Badakhshan province after being trapped under debris following a mine collapse.
In recent years, numerous cases of miners being killed or injured in mine and tunnel collapses have been reported across Afghanistan. Such incidents are largely attributed to unsafe and non-standard mining practices, as well as a lack of adequate safety equipment and measures at mining sites.
