In Badakhshan Province, local sources report that anti-Taliban forces launched an attack last night on a Taliban military outpost in Yaftal-e Payin District. According to these sources, the fighters stationed at the base were disarmed, and weapons, ammunition, and other military equipment were taken from the facility.
The sources further state that following the incident, Taliban helicopters began conducting patrols over the airspace of Yaftal-e Payin District. A local resident also reported that helicopter activity in the area increased after the attack ended.
The Taliban have not yet commented on these claims.
In recent years, Badakhshan has witnessed several clashes and incidents of violence over the control and extraction of mineral resources, particularly gold and precious stones.
Residents of the area say the Taliban are seeking to establish direct control over these mineral resources. However, according to them, local communities consider the mines their own property and oppose the Taliban’s policies regarding their control and extraction.
