Delcy Rodríguez, the interim president of Venezuela, has announced that following two powerful and devastating earthquakes in the country, at least 32 people have been killed so far and more than 700 others have been injured. Venezuelan authorities have warned that the death toll may rise in the coming hours and days.

According to reports, the earthquakes have caused extensive damage, including the collapse of several buildings in various areas, including the capital. Rescue forces are still searching for people trapped under the rubble, and search-and-rescue operations are ongoing.

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported that the first earthquake, with a magnitude of 7.2, occurred approximately 160 kilometers west of Caracas, the capital of Venezuela, followed less than a minute later by a second earthquake measuring 7.5 in the same region.

The agency also noted, based on its preliminary models, that in a worst-case scenario, the number of casualties could be significantly higher than current estimates. However, these projections are preliminary, and final figures will only be determined after assessment and rescue operations are completed.

Donald Trump, President of the United States, expressed his condolences to those affected by the disaster and stated that the United States is prepared to provide humanitarian and emergency assistance to Venezuela. Several other countries have also announced their readiness to assist those affected.
