Pakistan’s interior inister, Mohsin Naqvi, has said that border crossings and transit routes between Afghanistan and Pakistan will be reopened.
The Pakistani media outlet Minute Mirror reported on Saturday evening, 17 Asad, that Naqvi raised the issue during a meeting with Pakistani officials and representatives of the country’s business community.
According to the report, following a meeting chaired by Pakistan’s interior minister with senior officials and business community representatives, a decision was made to reopen all border crossings and transit routes between the two countries.
The meeting also discussed measures needed to remove existing obstacles to bilateral trade and facilitate the movement of goods between Afghanistan and Pakistan.
The issue of facilitating the legal travel of Afghan and Pakistani citizens between the two countries was also raised. However, according to the media outlet, no specific decision has yet been made on the matter.
Nevertheless, Pakistani government officials have not yet officially commented on the decisions reached at the meeting or on the reopening of border crossings and transit routes between the two countries.
Afghanistan-Pakistan border crossings and transit routes were closed following military clashes between the Taliban and Pakistan last year, and restrictions on the movement of people and goods between the two countries remained in place.
As the clashes intensified, both sides closed several border routes. At present, the Torkham crossing in Nangarhar, the Spin Boldak crossing in Kandahar, and the Bahramcha crossing in Helmand remain open for the return of migrants from Pakistan.
