The office of the Taliban prime minister’s economic deputy has announced the opening of a laboratory in the western province of Herat to assess the quality of food, medicines and health products.
In a statement, the office said the laboratory was inaugurated today, Sunday, 18 Asad, in the presence of Abdul Ghani Baradar, the Taliban prime minister’s economic deputy, and Abdul Salam Hanafi, his administrative deputy.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Abdul Ghani Baradar said, “From now on, the quality and authenticity of food, medicines and health products imported into Afghanistan from neighboring and other countries will be assessed by this laboratory. This will help prevent the import of low-quality, counterfeit and substandard products.”
He added, “In addition to imported products, this laboratory will also work to ensure the quality of domestic products and promote exports. As a result, Afghan products will be able to compete with products from other countries in terms of quality and gain a reliable position in international markets.”
The Taliban prime minister’s economic deputy called on traders to refrain from importing low-quality products and urged domestic manufacturers to pay greater attention to the quality of their products.
The Taliban have previously announced the establishment of quality-assessment laboratories in several other cities across the country.
However, citizens have repeatedly complained about the poor quality of imported and domestically produced goods, particularly food and pharmaceutical products.
