Pakistan’s Information Minister, Attaullah Tarar, has claimed that an attempt was made yesterday to send several unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) from Afghan territory toward Pakistan. According to him, Pakistan’s air defense system intercepted and destroyed the drones before they could reach their intended targets.
Tarar said that, in response to the incident, Pakistani air force aircraft and drones carried out strikes several hours ago against 10 locations and facilities in Afghanistan that, according to him, were being used to launch and store unmanned aerial vehicles.
The Pakistani information minister stressed that his country would not tolerate any terrorist or military threat originating from Afghan territory. He said that, from now on, any similar action would be met with an “immediate, severe and decisive” response.
He called on the Taliban to fulfill their international and diplomatic obligations by preventing other groups or military elements from carrying out attacks from Afghan territory.
Tarar warned that if such attacks continue, Pakistan’s military operations will also continue.
The Pakistani government says it does not want tensions to escalate further. However, it maintains that it will use all available means to protect the country’s territorial integrity and the security of its citizens.
