Local sources in Nangarhar province say the body of a young girl bearing signs of violence has been found in Jalalabad, the provincial capital. According to the sources, local residents discovered the body in the Babaryan area of Jalalabad’s Police District 3 before noon on Thursday, 6 August.
A local source said residents alerted the Taliban police after finding the body. Taliban forces arrived at the scene and transferred the girl’s body to Nangarhar Central Hospital for further examination.
The girl’s identity has not yet been established, although local sources estimate that she was around 12 years old. Authorities have not released any details about the victim’s identity or her family.
Doctors conducting the initial examination said the girl’s body showed signs of violence on multiple parts of her body. They also said preliminary findings indicate that she may have died from suffocation, although the exact cause of death will be determined after the investigation is completed.
Local Taliban officials said an investigation has been launched to establish the victim’s identity, contact her family, identify the perpetrator or perpetrators, and determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
However, the Taliban have not yet issued an official statement on the case, and no further details about the investigation have been made public.
