Local sources in Zabul Province say that a former security forces member was killed by unidentified individuals in Sewri District of the province. According to the sources, the victim was identified as Sayed Jan and was 38 years old.
The sources said the incident took place on the evening of Tuesday, July 8, in the Loi Shahr area of Sewri District. Eyewitnesses said Sayed Jan’s body was discovered by local residents after he was killed, with signs of torture, strangulation, and knife wounds visible on his body.
The sources added that Sayed Jan had served as a police officer during the former Afghan republic. He was originally from Sewri District but had been living in Qalat, the capital of Zabul Province, after the fall of the republic. To support his family, he worked as a taxi driver.
Local Taliban officials in Zabul have not yet commented on the incident, and no details regarding how the killing occurred have been released. No individual or group has so far claimed responsibility for the attack.
Although the perpetrators remain unidentified, numerous reports of the killing of former security personnel in different parts of Afghanistan have emerged in recent years. The Taliban have consistently denied involvement in such incidents, while human rights organizations and some local sources have, in certain cases, accused the group of responsibility.
