Local sources in Panjshir Province say that the Taliban arrested a resident of the province about a week ago on allegations of cooperating with the National Resistance Front (NRF). The individual had been deported from Iran to Afghanistan several months earlier.
The sources told reporters on Wednesday, July 8, that in recent months the Taliban have detained several Panjshir residents after their return from Iran. These claims have not yet been independently verified.
According to the sources, the detainee is Abdul Qahar, son of Mohammad Ishaq, a resident of the village of Sangi Khan in Abshar District, Panjshir Province.
The sources said Abdul Qahar fled to Iran following the collapse of Afghanistan’s former republic and spent approximately four years working there as a laborer. He was deported from Iran and returned to Afghanistan about four months ago.
According to the sources, nearly a week has now passed since Abdul Qahar’s arrest, and his family has yet to receive any information about his whereabouts or condition.
The Taliban have not commented on the claims made by local sources or on the fate of the detained individual.
In recent years, human rights organizations and media outlets have published reports alleging the arbitrary detention, torture, and other human rights violations against some residents of Panjshir since the Taliban returned to power. The Taliban have rejected these allegations, maintaining that their actions are carried out within the framework of maintaining security and enforcing the law.
