The Afghanistan freedom front has announced that Mullah Dawood Afzal, a local Taliban commander in Behsud district of Nangarhar province, was killed in a targeted attack carried out by the group.
In a statement, the front said that at around 2 p.m. on Saturday, 30 Asad 1405 in the Solar Hijri calendar, its forces targeted Mullah Dawood Afzal and his associates in Behsud district.
According to the statement, a brief clash broke out between the two sides after the attack began, resulting in the death of Mullah Dawood Afzal and the serious injury of two of his bodyguards.
The Afghanistan Freedom Front claimed that one of Mullah Dawood Afzal’s guards was in critical condition. The group provided no further details about the condition of the other guard or where the injured individuals were taken for treatment.
The front also alleged that Mullah Dawood Afzal was known for what it described as “oppression, extremism, and misogyny.” According to the group, he was the son of Mawlawi Khorshid, a prominent Taliban figure in eastern Afghanistan.
As of the time of publication, Taliban officials had not commented on the reported killing of Mullah Dawood Afzal or the allegations made by the Afghanistan Freedom Front.
