Qatar’s Ambassador in Kabul, Murdif bin Ali Al-Qashouti, has pledged cooperation and assistance in the field of higher education in Afghanistan during a meeting with Nada Mohammad Nadim, the Taliban’s Minister of Higher Education.
The Taliban’s Ministry of Higher Education said in a statement on Sunday that Al-Qashouti, referring to the shared religious and cultural values between Afghanistan and Qatar, said his country was pleased with Afghanistan’s development and with efforts to strengthen higher education and the broader education sector.
The Qatari ambassador pledged to send professors from Qatar and other Islamic countries to Afghanistan. He also said Qatar would help equip the cancer diagnosis and treatment center at Kabul University of Medical Sciences and would cooperate with Afghanistan in other academic and scientific fields.
Meanwhile, Nada Mohammad Nadim, the Taliban’s Minister of Higher Education, expressed appreciation for Qatar’s policies and positions toward Afghanistan, saying that Afghanistan and Qatar share numerous religious and cultural ties.
Nadim claimed that the Ministry of Higher Education is committed to advancing modern education and the development of scientific fields while taking Islamic Sharia and Afghan culture into consideration.
According to the statement, at Nadim’s request, the Qatari ambassador also visited several educational institutions in Afghanistan, as well as the cancer diagnosis and treatment center.
Qatar was one of the key mediators in the peace negotiations between the Taliban and the United States. However, it has not yet formally recognized the Taliban government.
