The Taliban’s Deputy Minister for Publications Affairs at the Ministry of Information and Culture, Hayatullah Muhajir Farahi, has warned that any attempt to destabilize the Wakhan Corridor will face a strong response from the group.
In a statement posted on X on July 17, Farahi said that ensuring the security of the strategically important Wakhan Corridor is among the top priorities of the Taliban’s security forces and that no negligence will be tolerated in this regard. He emphasized that both domestic and foreign opponents should recognize the seriousness and sensitivity with which the security forces are approaching the issue.
Farahi also stated that groups and individuals who cannot tolerate Afghanistan’s economic development and seek to obstruct economic projects “do not deserve sympathy.” He said any acts of sabotage or disruption targeting economic development and infrastructure projects will be prevented through strict measures.
The Wakhan Corridor is one of Afghanistan’s key strategic regions, connecting the country with China. In recent years, it has received increased attention due to its potential role in transit and economic connectivity. The area is also considered important by China, while Tajikistan has periodically expressed concerns over potential security threats originating from Afghanistan.
The Taliban official’s remarks come as a newly formed armed group calling itself “Sepahian-e Mihan” (Soldiers of the Homeland) recently claimed that it had taken control of a government building in Kuz Yafthal district of Badakhshan Province for several hours. The group said its attacks were motivated by what it described as “injustices” committed by the Taliban against the people.
