A sudden flash flood caused by heavy rainfall in the Landi Kotal area of Khyber district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, swept away a vehicle carrying Afghan migrants. As a result, three members of a family, including a woman and two children, lost their lives, while 13 others were rescued.
Landi Kotal Assistant Commissioner Inamullah said that 16 members of an Afghan migrant family were travelling in the vehicle and were returning to Afghanistan through the Torkham border crossing. According to him, the vehicle was swept away by a sudden flood in a stream near Sultan Khel Market.
Officials said that rescue teams and local residents jointly managed to save 13 people from the floodwaters, but three individuals were carried away by the current. Their bodies were later recovered from different locations.
According to the Assistant Commissioner, the death toll in Khyber district has risen to four due to recent continuous rains and flooding, while rescue and relief operations are still underway in the affected areas.
