Local sources and relatives of Talib Shah Dawlatzai, a former Afghan police officer, say that he was shot dead after being detained by Taliban forces in Balkh Province. The incident reportedly took place on Tuesday evening, August 5, in the village of Boka, located in Balkh District.

According to his relatives, Talib Shah Dawlatzai had traveled to China to continue his studies after the collapse of the previous Afghan government and had recently returned to Afghanistan. They said two Taliban intelligence officers detained him from his home.

The former officer’s relatives stated that the officials tied his hands and covered his eyes during the arrest before taking him away. They said his body, with gunshot wounds, was found on the outskirts of the village approximately one hour after his detention.

Sources close to the family also said that Dawlatzai had traveled to Badakhshan Province several days before the incident to meet with friends and was arrested after returning to Balkh.

The Taliban have not yet responded to the report, and the claim has not been independently verified.
