Yemeni government sources have said that at least 30 government soldiers were killed in Houthi missile and drone attacks on military camps in the provinces of Marib and Hadramout.
According to reports, the Iran-aligned Houthi group has claimed responsibility for the attacks and alleged that it targeted Saudi Arabian-affiliated military positions in the Al-Ruwaik, Al-Abr, and Al-Thaniyah areas of Marib and Hadramout provinces using ballistic missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles.
The Houthis claim that dozens of local fighters and Saudi-backed forces were killed or wounded in the attacks, and that weapons depots and military equipment were also destroyed. They said the operations were carried out to prevent possible Saudi Arabian military movements.
Meanwhile, Yemen’s Minister of Health has instructed medical facilities to remain on emergency standby to receive and treat the injured.
The United States Embassy in Yemen has also expressed condolences to the families of the slain soldiers and described the attacks as a continuation of the Houthis’ “terrorist” activities.
The attacks come after the Houthis announced a naval blockade against Saudi Arabia in the Red Sea last month.
