Despite criticism of deporting refugees with criminal records to Afghanistan, Germany’s Interior Minister said that this policy will continue “firmly.” According to him, criminal refugees are considered a security threat to Germany. Alexander Dobrindt added that Germany is in contact with Taliban officials on this matter.
On Sunday evening, in an interview with the ARD television network, he responded to his critics by saying that those who oppose the deportation of criminals to Afghanistan should explain whether Germany would be “safer” if these individuals remained in the country.
According to published information, at least 138 Afghan refugees have been deported from Germany to Afghanistan over the past year.
Reports also indicate that the German government has reached an agreement with the Taliban that facilitates regular deportations. In return, the Taliban have been allowed to send two diplomats to Germany.
