Summary

Sirajuddin Haqqani, the Taliban’s Minister of Interior, says that Afghanistan is the common home of all Afghans and that no one should consider themselves alienated from their country or society.

Haqqani made the remarks during a visit to Bamyan at a gathering with tribal elders, local officials, and residents. He said Afghans should work toward peaceful coexistence, unity, and mutual respect rather than focusing on their differences.

The Taliban’s Interior Minister said, “Today, we can tolerate one another and share in each other’s sorrows and joys.” He emphasized that efforts would be made to address the legitimate demands of every citizen, provided that those demands are resolvable.

Haqqani described social relations and interaction among Afghanistan’s various social groups as important to maintaining security and stability. He said that preserving the country’s current security is not solely the responsibility of the Taliban administration, but also requires the participation of the people.

He specifically called on Afghans living abroad and political figures not to consider themselves separated from Afghanistan and invited them to return to the country. According to Haqqani, efforts will be made to address the problems and legitimate demands of citizens where those issues can be resolved.

Haqqani’s remarks come at a time when, in recent months, armed groups, including the National Resistance Front and the Afghanistan Freedom Front, have claimed responsibility for attacks against Taliban security forces in northern provinces, particularly Badakhshan.

Political opponents of the Taliban have also previously stressed the need for dialogue to resolve political differences, while criticizing the Taliban administration over the lack of inclusive political participation.
