Taliban Ministry of Mines spokesperson: Opponents should forget their dream of returning to power.
Homayoun Afghan, spokesperson for the Taliban’s Ministry of Mines and Petroleum, has rejected the prospect of the group’s opponents returning to power in response to reports of increased activity by groups opposed to the Taliban.
Referring to the fall of Kunduz city five years ago, he said that the Taliban came to power after years of fighting and enduring considerable hardships, and that they are not prepared to relinquish it easily.
In a post on the social media platform X, Afghan wrote: “Reaching power was not easy, and we will not give it up just as easily.”
The remarks come amid reports in recent days of increased activity by groups opposed to the Taliban in several parts of Afghanistan.
