The Iran national football team drew 0–0 with the Belgium national football team in their second match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, securing another valuable point to add to their tally.
The Group G match was held in Los Angeles. Throughout the game, Belgium enjoyed greater possession and created numerous attacks on the Iranian goal; however, Iran’s defensive organisation and the goalkeeper’s strong performance prevented the opposition from scoring.
Alireza Beiranvand, Iran’s goalkeeper, made seven successful saves during the match and was widely regarded as one of the best players on the pitch.
In the second half, Belgium’s Nathan Ngoy was shown a straight red card after fouling Mehdi Taremi, who was through on goal in a one-on-one situation with the goalkeeper.
Taremi did manage to score against Thibaut Courtois, but the goal was disallowed for offside.
With this result, both Iran and Belgium now have four points and remain in contention for qualification to the knockout stage. Iran will face the Egypt national football team in their next match.
