Channel 14 Israel reported on Saturday that Israeli forces have taken control of an underground command center belonging to Hezbollah in the Ali Taher Heights in southern Lebanon. According to the report, the facility is part of Hezbollah’s military infrastructure, and it is believed that a large number of the group’s fighters were present inside at the time.
Israeli media outlets stated that the command center is part of an extensive network of tunnels and underground installations in southern Lebanon, which, according to these sources, was established with financial and technical support from the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The Ali Taher Heights are considered to hold significant strategic importance due to their commanding view over the city of Nabatieh and surrounding supply routes. Observers believe that control over this area could have an impact on the security situation and the balance of power in southern Lebanon.
The development comes just days after a temporary ceasefire was established through United States mediation, raising renewed concerns about the durability of recent agreements. Meanwhile, some Lebanese sources have reported that the Lebanese army has withdrawn from several positions near the area in order to avoid direct confrontation.
The Islamic Republic of Iran condemned the action, describing it as a violation of Lebanon’s sovereignty. Israeli officials, meanwhile, have not yet released further details regarding the operation.
Analysts believe that, if confirmed, the seizure of this facility could form part of Israel’s efforts to reduce Hezbollah’s command and control capabilities in southern Lebanon. They also suggest that continued developments of this nature could further escalate tensions in the region, particularly as the parties involved continue to accuse one another of violating the ceasefire.
