Local sources at Kabul Airport say Taliban forces have asked some passengers, while leaving Afghanistan, to convey Eid greetings from Mullah Hibatullah Akhundzada, the group’s leader, to Afghans living abroad.
According to the sources, this move comes at a time when travel to Afghanistan by citizens holding European and American nationalities has increased.
In his Eid message, Mullah Hibatullah Akhundzada claimed that under Taliban rule, the rights of all citizens have been secured and that the principle of “promoting virtue and preventing vice” has been implemented.
This comes while international organizations and a number of Afghan citizens have repeatedly expressed concern over restrictions imposed on women and girls, including deprivation of education and employment.
In addition, the continuation of economic problems, rising poverty, and social restrictions in the country remain subjects of debate and criticism.
