Local sources in Badghis province say the Taliban’s intelligence agency has detained three officials of Kabul Bank following the disappearance of 8 million Afghanis from the bank’s provincial branch.
According to the sources, Zahir Rahimi, the manager of Kabul Bank in Badghis, Tahir Sharifi, the bank’s deputy manager, and Mohammad Dawood, the branch’s treasurer, were arrested by Taliban intelligence on Wednesday, July 16.
The sources said the detentions came after 8 million Afghanis went missing from the vault of the Kabul Bank branch. It remains unclear how the money disappeared or whether the detained officials have been formally charged.
The Taliban have not commented on the fate of the missing funds, the allegations against the detained officials, or the outcome of any investigation. The reports have also not been independently verified by the media.
