Former Afghan President Hamid Karzai has reacted to security agreements among tribal leaders in areas near the Durand Line, saying that Pakistan is trying to make the people of the region dependent on its territory for resolving security and other issues.
Karzai stated in a press release that recently, on both sides of the Durand Line, some tribal leaders have signed agreements under the name of “security agreements,” which have been welcomed and confirmed by Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. According to him, such actions reflect Pakistan’s efforts to formalize the Durand Line and influence Afghanistan’s national sovereignty.
The former president added that the current Taliban authorities in Afghanistan should provide the public with clear information regarding these agreements and recent developments.
Earlier, Pakistan had confirmed agreements between tribal leaders in the Nuristan–Chitral and Kunar–Bajaur areas, but the Taliban have not yet issued an official position on this matter.
