Taliban Minister of Higher Education Nida Mohammad Nadim says that, since the group’s return to power, “special attention” has been given to higher education, and efforts are being made for universities to train “specialized, professional and religiously observant” personnel.
The Taliban’s Ministry of Higher Education said on Friday, 16 Hamal, that a meeting of the Joint Leadership Council of Universities and Religious Seminaries was held at Kandahar University under the chairmanship of Nida Mohammad Nadim.
At the meeting, Nadim described the establishment of the council as important for the advancement of academic affairs and said that officials from universities and religious seminaries share their views through the council.
He emphasized that every university official should have a thorough understanding of their responsibilities, the mission of the university, and the value of students.
The Taliban’s Minister of Higher Education said: “Universities are academic institutions that train professional personnel in agriculture, medicine, engineering, economics and other fields to contribute to the country’s development and strengthen the system.”
Nadim also called for students to have the ability to work effectively in practical fields after graduation and to be capable of meeting the country’s needs.
The Taliban’s Ministry of Higher Education says that, as needed, similar meetings of the leadership council are held each year among central directorates, state universities and religious seminaries.
According to the ministry, the council’s current two-day meeting is being held this time at Kandahar University.
