Iranian president Masoud Pezeshkian says that the Taliban and Pakistan have cooperated well with Tehran during the “wartime conditions” and have prevented “foreign elements” from entering Iran from their territory.
Speaking at a press conference on Saturday, 17 Asad, Pezeshkian said that officials in Afghanistan and Pakistan had stressed that they would not allow individuals to enter Iran from their territory and engage in acts of insecurity or unrest.
The Iranian president added that Afghanistan and Pakistan had deployed their forces in border areas to control the situation along the frontier. He did not provide further details about the number or locations of Taliban forces deployed along the Afghanistan-Iran border.
Pezeshkian said that, despite efforts to create insecurity along Iran’s borders, neighboring countries had stood against individuals who sought to enter Iran from their territory and cause unrest in the country.
Referring to Pakistan’s cooperation, he said: “Pakistan is now cooperating wholeheartedly. Afghanistan is also cooperating very well.”
The Iranian president provided no further explanation of the actions taken by Taliban forces in the border areas, and it remains unclear which sections of the Afghanistan-Iran border he was referring to when he mentioned the deployment of forces in border areas.
