Summary

Masoud Pezeshkian, President of Iran, stated today during a Muharram Ashura mourning ceremony and in a gathering of mourners of Imam Hussein that the United States and Israel had believed the Iranian government would collapse within three days, but that this objective was not achieved.

In his remarks, Pezeshkian said that the army and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) had performed effectively in response to the attacks and had been able to withstand them.

The President of Iran also referred to the event of Ashura, stating: “Those who follow the path of Hussein will not bow to the bombs and missiles of their enemies, and they will not do so.”

These remarks come at a time when Iran and its counterparts held their first round of talks earlier this week in Switzerland.

At the same time, Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, described the outcome of these discussions as positive for the country and said that the negotiations had brought significant achievements for Iran.
