The Taliban-run 11th District Office of Kabul has issued a notice asking owners of houses without official Sharia deeds to visit the office for a review of their property status. The notice did not provide details about the review process or any possible consequences.
The move has drawn reactions from some citizens. According to local sources, after some property owners visited the district office, monthly rent payments were imposed on houses lacking official Sharia deeds.
Sources say that the Taliban have so far not released any official explanation regarding the details of the decision, its legal basis, the method of calculating the rent, or how it will be collected. As a result, there are still uncertainties surrounding the implementation of the decision.
It also remains unclear whether the decision applies only to houses located in Kabul’s 11th District or whether it will later be extended to other districts of Kabul and other parts of Afghanistan.
