Summary

The Russian embassy in Kabul has expressed concern over civilian casualties in connection with the recent clashes between Pakistan and the Taliban.

The embassy said reports of civilian casualties, including children, during the ongoing clashes between the two sides are a matter of serious concern.

In its statement, the Russian Embassy referred to Pakistan’s airstrikes on the Afghan provinces of Helmand and Kunar on October 1, saying that a number of people, including children, were killed and wounded in the attacks.

The statement was issued two days after the attacks on the two provinces. However, rather than condemning Pakistan’s strikes, the embassy expressed concern over the civilian casualties resulting from them.

Meanwhile, the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) in Kabul said that 10 civilians, including children, were killed and nine others injured in Pakistan’s recent airstrikes.

So far, Russia is the only country to have officially responded to the attacks.
