Local sources in Ghor province have reported the disappearance of approximately 70 tribal elders and community leaders from Taywara district. According to the sources, the individuals have not contacted their families since traveling to the provincial capital for a meeting with Taliban officials, and their whereabouts and condition remain unknown.
According to information received, the elders traveled two days ago from Zarbid village in Taywara district to Firozkoh, the capital of Ghor province, at the invitation of Hayatullah Muhajir, the Taliban governor of Ghor. The purpose of the meeting was reportedly to discuss recent tensions and developments in the area.
Local sources say that since the delegation arrived in the provincial capital, all communication between the elders and their families and local residents has been cut off. According to these sources, no official information has yet been released regarding their condition or location.
The situation has sparked widespread concern among families and residents of Taywara district. Some local residents claim that the individuals have been detained by the Taliban and transferred to an undisclosed location, although Taliban authorities have neither confirmed nor denied the allegation.
The families of the missing elders are calling for immediate clarification regarding the fate of their relatives and for them to be allowed to communicate with their families. They have also urged the relevant authorities and responsible institutions to provide transparency about the elders’ situation.
The incident comes amid numerous reports in recent years of the detention, imprisonment, and suppression of Taliban critics and opponents across Afghanistan, an issue that has repeatedly raised concerns among human rights organizations and civil society activists.
