Local sources in Badghis province say that two people were killed in the provincial capital after being shot by Taliban intelligence forces. Taliban officials have also confirmed the deaths.
Sediqullah Sediqi, spokesperson for the Taliban’s police command in Badghis, said the two men were members of what the Taliban refers to as a “group of evil and corruption.” He did not provide further details about their identities.
According to Sediqi, the incident occurred at around 4:00 p.m. today, Wednesday, 28 Asad, in the Qader’s Bandar area of Qala-e-Naw city, within the jurisdiction of the city’s Third Security District.
He claimed that the two men were shot and killed by Taliban forces while attempting to throw a hand grenade at a Taliban checkpoint.
However, independent sources have so far been unable to independently verify the Taliban spokesperson’s account of how the incident occurred or the identities of those killed.
A local source also said that Taliban intelligence forces shot dead two people in the area. The source added that they had no precise information about the identities of the victims or their alleged activities.
The Taliban routinely describes its armed opponents as a “group of evil and corruption.” However, no independent information has so far emerged establishing that the individuals killed were affiliated with any specific armed group.
The incident comes as the Taliban recently reported the deaths of more than 10 people in Kabul, claiming that they were thieves who were killed during clashes with Taliban forces.
Nevertheless, independent and verifiable details about how those individuals were killed and the circumstances surrounding the incidents have not yet been widely reported by credible sources.
