The Taliban’s ministry of higher education has announced the one-year suspension of seven private universities over widespread violations, including the registration of “ghost students” and cases related to administrative corruption.
In a statement, the ministry said the decision to suspend the universities followed repeated warnings and recommendations issued to their officials. According to the Taliban’s Ministry of Higher Education, the measure is aimed at preventing violations and improving the quality of the education system.
The ministry also announced the full revocation of the operating licenses of two other private universities. According to the statement, the two institutions were given opportunities to address their shortcomings and make the necessary corrections but failed to meet the required standards.
The move comes as oversight of higher education institutions, compliance with educational standards, and efforts to address administrative corruption remain among the challenges facing Afghanistan’s education system.
The Taliban’s Ministry of Higher Education did not provide further details in its statement about the names of the suspended universities or those whose operating licenses were revoked.
