Khalid Zadran, the Taliban police spokesperson in Kabul, praised Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa in a message posted beneath one of al-Sharaa’s social media posts. Addressing the Syrian leader, Zadran wrote: “We firmly believe that under your leadership, Syria will enter a new phase of peace, stability, and solidarity, and that this year will mark the beginning of prosperity, progress, and flourishing for the Syrian people.”
Al-Sharaa’s post, to which Zadran responded on the social media platform X, was published on the occasion of the Islamic New Year. In his message, the Syrian president congratulated the people of Syria on the beginning of the new Hijri year and wished them security, stability, and prosperity.
Zadran’s message of support for the Syrian president attracted considerable attention on social media and prompted a wide range of reactions from users.
Since returning to power in Afghanistan, the Taliban have closely followed developments in Syria and have commented on various events in the country on multiple occasions.
Since assuming power in Syria, Ahmad al-Sharaa has sought to expand his country’s diplomatic relations. Just two months after taking office, he visited Saudi Arabia. Within less than a year, he also traveled to Turkey, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Egypt, France, Azerbaijan, Jordan, and the United States.
Al-Sharaa’s appearances during these visits marked by his polished image, distinctive style of dress, and formal speeches at international forums have attracted media attention and contributed to projecting a new image of Syria’s leadership.
Previously, Mohammad Jalal, a figure close to the Taliban’s Minister of Interior, described Ahmad al-Sharaa’s journey from imprisonment in Iraq to becoming President of Syria as “extraordinary.”
