Summary

Alexander De Croo, Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), visited the Darah Noor district of Nangarhar province in Afghanistan during his trip to the country. This area is among those affected by the earthquake. During the visit, he emphasized continued support for the people of Afghanistan and strengthening development processes to promote stability in local communities.

On Monday, 5tf July , the UNDP chief shared a video of his visit, stating that three out of every four people in Afghanistan face serious challenges in meeting their basic needs. He added that he observed this situation firsthand during his visit to the earthquake-affected areas.

Referring to last year’s devastating earthquake in Afghanistan, De Croo noted that the disaster destroyed many citizens’ homes. According to him, the UNDP, in cooperation with local communities, is working to restore normal living conditions through the construction of shelters, the creation of flood protection structures, and the provision of employment opportunities.

He described the objective of these programs as helping to rebuild in a better way, increasing community resilience, and creating conditions for lasting stability. He added that while emergency and humanitarian aid saves lives, development provides the foundation for building a sustainable and stable future.

Meanwhile, Brham Saleh, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, and Alexander De Croo, Administrator of the UNDP, arrived in Kabul on Sunday to closely assess the situation of the people in Afghanistan.

The Taliban Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation also issued a statement saying that this United Nations delegation visited Afghanistan to observe and evaluate the challenges faced by the country’s population.
