The Commission for Liaison with Taliban Personalities says that Masroor, a former representative of the people of Balkh in the Afghan House of Representatives, appears to have received an immunity card from the commission.
Masroor was a political figure from Balkh and represented the province in the 17th term of the Afghan House of Representatives. He was elected to parliament from Balkh in the 2018 parliamentary elections and served as a member of the House of Representatives from 2019 to 2021.
The issuance of the immunity card comes as the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), in its latest quarterly report, has reported the continued killing and targeted assassination of former government military personnel in various parts of Afghanistan.
In the report, UNAMA expressed concern over the security and human rights situation of former government military personnel and officials, emphasizing the need to protect individuals at risk and to uphold human rights obligations.
