Summary

The Taliban’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has called on Italian authorities to conduct a comprehensive, transparent, and impartial investigation into the incident in which three Afghan migrants were burned to death in Italy and to bring those responsible to justice.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the ministry described the killing of the Afghan migrants as “criminal, brutal, shocking, and inhumane” and strongly condemned the act.

The statement emphasized that, in addition to clarifying the circumstances surrounding the incident, Italian authorities should take all necessary measures to safeguard the rights of the victims and their families and to ensure that justice is served. The ministry also stressed the importance of protecting the lives, security, and fundamental rights of Afghan migrants residing in Italy and other countries.

The appeal came after Taj Mohammad Almyar, the sole Afghan survivor of the incident, told Italy’s national television that a dispute had arisen with two Pakistani nationals over unpaid wages. According to his account, as the workers were returning from their job site, one of the employers allegedly poured petrol over their vehicle while another locked its doors, after which the vehicle was set on fire.

Three Afghan workers and one Pakistani worker were killed in the incident. Italian police have arrested two Pakistani nationals in connection with the case.
