Three days after the fall of Yaftal district, the Taliban have carried out extensive changes in the local administration, police command, and intelligence management structures in several districts of Badakhshan province.
According to local sources, new appointments and reshuffles have been made in government positions across Nusay, Shiki, Jurm, Shahr-e Buzurg, Kashm, Argo, Yaftal, and several other districts.
The changes are reportedly linked to a surprise attack by a newly formed armed group known as “Sepah-e Mihan”, which briefly seized control of Yaftal district from the Taliban for several hours on Friday morning.
Sources say that Maulvi Qadir Ghafari has been appointed as the new district governor of Yaftal, while Jahan Khan Noori has been named the new police chief. Meanwhile, Abdul Wahab Farooqi has been appointed as the police commander of Shahr-e Buzurg district.
For Nusay district, Samiullah Rasouli has been appointed as district governor and Hayatullah Almas as police chief, while Shamsullah Khalid has assumed the position of police commander in Jurm district.
Reports indicate that these changes came after internal disputes among Taliban members in Nusay district intensified in recent weeks. It is reported that local commander Juma Khan Fateh had refused to comply with orders from some senior Taliban officials.
Following several weeks of negotiations and mediation by the Taliban’s Chief of Staff, Juma Khan Fateh was eventually transferred from Badakhshan to Kabul.
