BBC, citing its sources, reported that Mullah Mohammad Yaqoob Mujahid, the Taliban’s defense minister, discussed obtaining advanced air defense equipment with Russian officials during his recent visit to Moscow.
According to the report, the Taliban had previously held discussions with Russia regarding defense cooperation, particularly air defense systems, but it is now said that these talks have entered the stage of practical implementation.
Sources added that an agreement between the two sides has also been signed and finalized in the presence of Sergei Shoigu, secretary of Russia’s National Security Council, and Mullah Mohammad Yaqoob Mujahid.
Although no official details have yet been released regarding the type, quantity, or technical specifications of the equipment, reports indicate that Russia will also provide military training to Taliban forces.
