Polish police have announced that the search is continuing for three Afghan sisters 18-year-old Sana, 16-year-old Lima, and 14-year-old Marwa who went missing in the city of Warsaw several days ago. According to police, the three girls have not contacted their family since their disappearance, and their whereabouts remain unknown.
In a statement issued by Warsaw’s District V Police on 6 August, authorities said the sisters left their residence at around 6:00 p.m. on 1 August. Police said they were last seen at approximately 8:50 p.m. at a tram stop in Warsaw. It was also reported that they had made purchases at a store earlier that evening.
Police officials said that no trace of the sisters has been found since they were last seen. They have neither returned home nor made contact with any members of their family. Authorities also stated that the girls left home without their mobile phones or identity documents.
Polish police have urged anyone with information about the whereabouts of the three Afghan sisters to contact the relevant authorities as soon as possible so that the search operation and investigation can proceed more quickly.
In recent years, Poland has become one of the main transit routes for Afghan migrants and asylum seekers travelling to Central and Western European countries, including Germany. While some Afghan migrants apply for asylum after arriving in Poland, others attempt to continue their journey to Western Europe.
In some cases, Polish authorities return migrants who are deemed ineligible for residence or international protection to the country through which they entered or to neighbouring states. At the same time, reports indicate that human smuggling networks have played a role in facilitating the movement of some migrants to countries such as Germany and France.
